best buy and hp and scandal, oh my!

January 30th, 2008 by jake

As any avid reader (all two of you) will know from my blog, HP and Best Buy often give me material to work with. It simply can’t be sheer coincidence when multiple scandals (resulting in three board members leaving,) customer fraud, sketchy employees, and even more sketchy employees, along with dozens of other high-publicity events all occur in the two same companies. I can’t be the only one not trusting either of these corporations. Also, check out an earlier post I made for more rants about Best Buy’s “double website” scam.

At any rate, check out the newest jackass move by Best Buy, original find courtesy of [H]ardOCP. A former employee of Best Buy is apparently a victim of blackballing by Best Buy management. This doesn’t seem to be a personal vendetta, either. While the article doesn’t go into detail about the relationship between the two parties, I doubt either of them know each other personally. Take that at face value, though.

The saddest part of this is that it’s the reason why your employer can’t give any sort of reference about you - even if it’s good - because of crap like this. They can only confirm or deny that you worked at the place you said you did during the times you said you did. My own manager’s complained about this several times, because we’ve gotten some skilled people to pass through the repair shop where I work.

Now, on to the scary - I wonder how many others have had this happen to them before this one guy spoke up and made a lawsuit out of it?

Ech, just one more reason to never shop at Best Buy.

UPDATE 2/13: Apparently, Best Buy loves adding fuel to the fire. According to this article, they’re being sued for $54 million after losing a woman’s laptop and then trying to buy her off.
